Doris Elizabeth Geraldine Swadling Scholarship
Public Trust is Trustee of the Estate of Doris Elizabeth Geraldine Swadling. The Trust was established following Miss Swadling's death on the 22nd of June 1960. Under her Will, the residue of the estate is to be held in perpetuity to provide scholarships as follows:
Music Scholarships
The advancement of musical education to students who presently reside in the Taranaki Province, by the granting of Scholarships or Bursaries or other assistance, to enable or assist them to obtain musical training or education or by fostering in any other ways knowledge and appreciation for good music. Applicants must be under the age of 21 years as at the closing date of the annual grant round. A preference will be given to students from less well-off backgrounds.
Please note the Trust no longer provides scholarships towards music tuition.
Agriculture Scholarships
The granting of Scholarships, Bursaries or other assistance to students who presently reside in the Taranaki Province and who wish to become farmers, in order to obtain further education or training in the kind of knowledge or skills which should be useful for them in farming pursuits. Applicants must be under the age of 21 years as at the closing date of the annual grant round. Agriculture Scholarships will be awarded to successful applications balancing career-specific/ merit-based and financial need-based.
Taranaki Province defined as
Those students presently permanently living within the region administered by the Taranaki Regional Council including New Plymouth, Hawera, Waitara, Stratford, Inglewood, Eltham, Opunake, Patea - at the time of submitting the application.

The 2024 grant round opens on 2 September 2024. (please note this date is subject to change, notification of such will be provided to the applicants email address).
