We are proud of our history of charitable gifting as one of New Zealand’s largest charitable trust administrators and advisers. We help over 420 charities and work to make sure a benefactor’s intentions are carried out for the life of their charitable trust. We also directly partner with charities and causes – all part of our history of giving for good.
A charitable trust holds and protects assets for charitable purposes so people can leave a lasting legacy by providing ongoing support after they’ve gone.
Public Trust is one of New Zealand’s largest charitable trust administrators and advisers assisting over 420 charities with extensive charitable gifting. In this work of charitable trusteeship, Public Trust takes care of registration, reporting, gifting, legal, accounting and taxation, and making sure assets are invested to provide lasting benefits. Through the granting of over $12 million annually through charitable trusts, Public Trust continues to be an important conduit to funnel money back into communities and help change the lives of New Zealanders in need.
T G Macarthy Trust is the largest trust that Public Trust administers providing grants of more than $2 million annually to support education, provide care for the elderly and improve the quality of life for the disadvantaged in the lower North Island, and a total of over $85 million since its inception in 1912. It is considered one of New Zealand’s largest perpetual charitable trusts with assets in excess of $90 million. The T G Macarthy Trust takes its name from its wealthy benefactor, Thomas George Macarthy, whose generous bequeath to the Crown has helped build strong, inclusive and supportive communities over many generations.
Public Trust also has a history of partnerships with charities and causes. Along the way we’ve partnered with organisations such as Alzheimers New Zealand and our team continue to work closely with service providers in their local communities to help us reach more Kiwis.
Public Trust has recently developed a new formal partnership with Blind Low Vision NZ, designed to enable greater access to wills for a vulnerable segment of society. It has established a blueprint for other such collaborations in the future that will benefit more New Zealanders.
