Estate of Alfred William Parsons

The purpose of the Trust is to apply the income for such charitable bodies and charitable purposes in the area comprised of the Waipukurau Borough, Waipukurau Country and Patangata County (the area of the Waipukurau District Council east of SH2 and the Makarakeke Stream excluding Waipawa township).

Mr Parsons provided an express wish that consideration be given to the maintenance, support, relief or benefit of persons who are in indigent circumstances and unable to adequately maintain and support themselves and their dependents, and also institutions and bodies benefiting the welfare of youth organisations.

The Trust was established following Mr Parsons death in July 1953. The Trust’s income is derived from the Sheep and Beef farm in Waipukurau. The Trust is registered with Charities Services as Estate of Alfred William Parsons under the registration number CC.24222.

Important update on the future of Parsons Farm

6 August 2025

Public Trust has announced it will sell Parsons farm, which forms part of the Alfred William Parsons Charitable Trust, with the proceeds invested to support increased community funding.

The Trust was created by Alfred Parsons on his death in 1953, to give back to his local Waipukurau community. Unfortunately, there has been limited community funding from the Trust for several years – and that’s not a situation that anyone wants to see continue.

As Trustee, we carried out a comprehensive review of farm operations, supported by an independent farm consultant. After careful consideration, Public Trust concluded that selling the farm and investing the proceeds is the best way to resume granting and better serve the Trust’s purpose. Our expectation is that annual granting rounds will resume in 2026.

Public Trust remains committed to ensuring Alfred Parson’s legacy continues to make a real and lasting difference for the local community.
