Public Trust has launched a new online service to help Kiwis and their families feel more secure by creating a will – in less time than it takes to stream an episode of a show on Netflix.

Public Trust has launched a new online service to help Kiwis and their families feel more secure by creating a will – in less time than it takes to stream an episode of a show on Netflix.

Available now on Public Trust’s website, the platform helps Kiwis create a will or enduring power of attorney (EPA) from the comfort and safety of their home – with a simple will taking as little as 15 minutes for someone with reasonable computer and literacy skills.

Public Trust Chief Executive Glenys Talivai says the new online service brings a little extra security to people’s lives at an uncertain time and makes the process of creating a will more accessible than ever.

“At a time when so many things are outside our control or have been put on hold, creating a will is one thing people can do right now to feel a little more in control. We’re really proud to offer an affordable service to help people tackle this task quickly and easily from home.

“We have already been noticing more enquires from people either checking up on existing wills and EPAs or enquiring about creating a will – so we know there is an appetite for Kiwis wanting to get their estates in order.”

Currently, only 48% of adult New Zealanders have a will in place, leaving significant room for potential financial and emotional stress amongst families. As a Crown Entity, Public Trust is on a mission to significantly increase the percentage of Kiwis covered by a will, in order to protect more Kiwi families from such strife.

Talivai is hopeful that with more Kiwis now starting to think about protecting their assets, the timely launch of Public Trust’s new online service can help close this gap.

“By removing barriers like time, place and affordability, we want to help more Kiwis of all ages and backgrounds to protect themselves and their families by creating a will.”

Depending on the will’s complexity, a Public Trust online will can be created in as little as 15 minutes with pricing starting at $69. The platform is secure, comes with New Zealand-based phone and chat support and is accessible 24/7.

The New Zealand public can get their will and EPAs sorted with Public Trust by going to: www.ptnz.nz/online.
