New Nelson home for Public Trust
14 August, 2019
After more than eight decades operating in Nelson, Public Trust has unveiled a new-look customer centre in Morrison Square.
The centre was formally opened yesterday by the Mayor of Nelson Rachel Reese following a blessing led by local kaumātua Andy Joseph.
Mayor Reese said she was proud to open the new premises, which reinforces the long commitment of Public Trust to Nelson and the surrounding areas.
Public Trust’s historical ties to the region date back to 1891 when the organisation appointed its first representative in Nelson. In the late 1930s, doors opened on the Public Trust building, located just 100 metres from the new customer centre at 244 Hardy Street.
Nelson Mayor Rachel Reese cuts the cake with Public Trust General Manager Julian Travaglia to celebrate the new Nelson premises.
Today, the customer centre offers a full range of will, estate administration and trust services to more than 8,000 customers across the Nelson/Tasman region. As well as seeing customers at the Morrison Square centre, the team also visits Motueka and Takaka.
“For more than a century, we’ve helped the Nelson community protect the people and things that matter to them and supported residents during what can be one of the hardest times in their life,” says Public Trust CEO Glenys Talivai.
“We’re proud that we can continue this tradition from our new customer centre.”
Joining the opening celebrations was Senior Trustee Kerry Strange, who first joined the Nelson Public Trust team in 1975. While technology has rapidly changed work practices, he believes one thing remains as important as ever.
“Building good relationships is at the heart of what we do, and has been for all these decades.”
Public Trust’s new customer centre is located at Morrison Square, Suite 3, Level 1, 244 Hardy Street and is open from 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday. An appointment can be made to meet with a team member by calling 0800 371 471 or booking online.
