Public Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of David Callanan to the newly created role of Chief Legal and Risk Officer.

The new position merges the current roles of GM Legal and Governance and Chief Risk Officer.

David has been acting Chief Risk Officer at Public Trust since September 2019 and will assume the new permanent position, which includes oversight of the legal function, from 24 December 2019 following the departure of current GM Legal and Governance Liz Style.

Most recently, David was Chief Risk Officer at Tower for more than 3 years, where his team oversaw risk, compliance, legal and governance for the Tower group.

Prior to Tower, David was Chief Risk Officer at RACQ Insurance in Australia. He also spent 4 years at PwC in Australia and London.

“David’s strong focus on optimising legal and compliance outcomes while ensuring great results for customers means he’s ideally placed to further the legal and risk functions at Public Trust,” says Public Trust CEO Glenys Talivai.

David is looking forward to taking on the responsibilities of the new expanded role.

“Public Trust plays a pivotal role in New Zealand by preparing, protecting and securing the future of New Zealanders and their communities,” says David.

“The industry is in an interesting place, with the expectations of customers and regulators driving us to find ever more efficient, effective and sustainable ways of doing business to meet and exceed these expectations.

“Public Trust is perfectly poised to achieve great things in this space and I’m looking forward to working with the whole team to continue the great progress that’s already being made.”
