Public Trust chief executive to leave at the end of contract

Public Trust chief executive Grenville Gaskell has announced his decision to leave the organisation at the end of his contract next month, after five and a half years in the job.

Mr Gaskell says he is leaving the business in good heart, having led Public Trust during a period of significant transformation to a more commercial operating model while managing the impacts of the global financial crisis and substantial regulatory reform in the financial sector.

Chairman Trevor Janes said the Board was appreciative of Mr Gaskell’s leadership, particularly the many enhancements to the business as part of the change programme to ensure Public Trust’s long-term financial sustainability.

Mr Gaskell said he had enjoyed leading an organisation that helps so many New Zealanders look after their interests, assets and the future of loved ones.  Public Trust’s focus on supporting charitable intent and the benefits of this to communities was also something he found very satisfying.

“While it’s a difficult decision to give up a rewarding role like this one, it’s also important to renew the leadership of an organisation to keep it fresh and innovative.
Mr Gaskell said he was very grateful for the way the people he worked with had responded to the opportunities for Public Trust.

“Our people have embraced the changes we’ve made to improve our productivity and enhance the customer experience.

“We’ve all been very focused on making sure Public Trust is in a stronger position to meet the needs of customers, now and for future generations,” Mr Gaskell said.

Mr Janes said the Board was currently searching for a new chief executive to replace Mr Gaskell who finishes on 31 August 2012 and expects to be in a position to make an announcement on this shortly.
