Doris Mildred Partridge Trust leaves a lasting legacy in the Hawkes Bay

A Hawkes Bay woman has left a lasting legacy to her community through a charitable trust created from her estate. Each year, a number of organisations in the area benefit from grants awarded by the Doris Mildred Partridge Trust, administered and managed by Public Trust. On April 16, The Order of St John Hawkes Bay will host a morning tea commemorating Miss Partridge's passing.

Doris Mildred Partridge passed away on 16 April 2003. Six years after her death local charitable societies, funds and organisations continue to benefit from her generosity.

In late 2008 the trust granted $14,000 to St John Hawkes Bay towards the purchase of life saving equipment for their ambulance. While St John is only one of many organisations that has benefited from funds generated from the trust, equipment purchased from Miss Partridge's legacy is set to touch many lives in Hawkes Bay.

"The life saving equipment St John has purchased from the grant will be used in front line ambulances for the good of the community. From a personal perspective it is nice to see the community supporting St John and money donated to St John going back to care for the community." St John Hawkes Bay District Operations Manager Stephen Smith says.

Each year, charities from Hawkes Bay are invited to annually apply for funds from the trust. Special consideration is given to a number of organisations, including the Hastings branch of Hearing Association Incorporated, the Hastings and District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Incorporated and The Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind, Hawkes Bay. Since her death the trust has provided more than $100,000 in grants.

Public Trust's National Manager of Charitable Services Lindsay Pope says "Public Trust is very pleased to be involved with helping make this equipment available within the community. We are proud of our role as trustee for the Doris Mildred Partridge Trust."

Public Trust administers to more than 400 charitable trusts (including scholarships) with interests as diverse as science, medicine, disability and agriculture. Collectively, the trusts provide the means for many people to live better lives enhance their skills or enjoy better community facilities.

A presentation of the life saving equipment purchased by the grant will be held at 2pm on April 16 at the St John headquarters, 107 Southland Road.
