Managed funds
What is a managed fund?
A managed fund is a collective investment arrangement where investors' money is pooled and invested in a range of assets. Each investor owns a portion of (or units in) the fund.
We act as trustee for a wide range of managed funds, including...
- Unit trusts and group investment funds
Funds that invest in a range of assets and sell units to investors. Our services encompass both wholesale and retail trusteeship. - Master trusts and wrap accounts
A structure is set up to invest in a range of funds, making it easier for investors to manage multiple investments. - Superannuation and KiwiSaver schemes
Funds similar to unit trusts but are covered by different Acts of Parliament, and generally have restrictions on withdrawals.
What we do as trustee
- We work with the organisation to help prepare the trust deed and disclosure documents and keep them current.
- We hold the assets, sign off transactions and monitor the fund managers' compliance with the governing rules.
- We have an extensive investment administration and settlements operation - see custodial services. We also help in choosing and appointing specialists to administer the scheme or assist with such responsibilities as investment mandates.
- We can act as either the principal trustee - or as an advisory trustee. Our experience covers retail schemes available to the public as well as industry and employer schemes.
Responsible investments - KiwiSaver
Legislation requires us (as the Issuer) to display an explanatory document on our website about responsible investment for KiwiSaver schemes, and complying superannuation fund providers who take responsible investment into account in the investment policies and procedures of the scheme.
